President Harry S. Truman Fellowship in National Security Science and Engineering

This fellowship gives new Ph.D. scientists and engineers (who have received a Ph.D. in the past three years) an opportunity to pursue independent research of their choosing that supports Sandia’s national security mission. Selection for this award is based on the candidate’s original contribution to solving an important problem, its impact, research proposal, academic record and recommendations, science and engineering background, research interests and professional goals, and compatibility of background and interests with Sandia’s research needs.

Benefits: Sandia’s competitive wage and benefits package includes an annual salary of $116,800 (128,500 CA) ; flexible work arrangements; 11 paid holidays; three weeks of vacation; health, vision, and dental insurance; and a 401(k) savings plan with company match.

Additionally, the fellowship includes a yearly allowance of $100K which can be used for research equipment, additional personnel, and travel.

Length: Three years

Eligibility:

  • Ph.D. conferred within the past three years or completion of PhD requirements by commencement of appointment.
  • No previous postdoctoral appointments at a national laboratory (pre-postdoc internships excluded)
  • Research in areas meaningful to national security
  • Development and submission of a compelling research proposal
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance, which requires US citizenship
