The ACS Congressional Fellowship Program places two fellows each year as staff members in the office of a U.S. senator, U.S. representative, or a congressional committee. The program has two main goals: (1) to provide policymakers with high-quality information about science-related issues, and (2) to educate scientists about how government works and how science policy is made. Fellows work on the Congressional staff of their choice; placement support is provided by ACS and AAAS. Fellows typically serve as legislative assistants, advising on a range of science policy issues and interacting with constituents.
Stipend: $79,720–90,350 per year (based on experience and government salary rates), along with other support, including reimbursement for health care insurance.
Length: One year, renewable for a second year
